Market House

Tucked away on the historic Market Hill in Cambridge, Market House isn’t just another restaurant-it’s a flavorful experience designed for those who crave sophistication without the snobbery. Think elevated dishes with a playful twist, a cozy vibe right in the heart of the city, and a food-and-drink selection that leans seriously into quality.

What makes Market House shine? Let’s start with the menu. Whether you're the type who gets excited about a perfectly seared venison or someone who lives for the crunch of Korean-style crispy fried chicken, this spot delivers bold, confident flavors with a dash of surprise. Their pork belly melts in the mouth, while the rabbit dish-yes, rabbit-is a game-changer for anyone ready to try something new. And if seafood’s your thing, don’t sleep on their seared scallops, swordfish, or the beautifully cooked sea bass. Each bite screams attention to detail.

The Korean-style dishes deserve their own moment. The crispy fried Norfolk chicken, paired with spicy chili sauce and spiced kimchi, brings fire and balance all at once. It’s not just fusion for the sake of trend-it’s smart, thoughtful, and genuinely delicious.

Now, if you’re into small plates, Market House offers a brilliant variety to share (or not). Ceviche, smoked Scottish salmon, and mackerel appear alongside crowd-pleasers like triple cooked chips and a fresh Caesar salad. Vegan and vegetarian guests? No one’s left out-there are well-considered options that actually hold their own against the meat dishes. Add in a sorbet to refresh your palate between bites, or end strong with the indulgent tiramisù or rich brownie.

Drinks-wise, the bar team knows what they’re doing. From a classic mojito to a crisp Bellini, the cocktail list plays both nostalgic and modern. Wine lovers will be delighted by the curated wine list, while the red wine pairings complement the richer proteins like venison and pork belly. And for daytime visitors, the coffee and tea selection is a highlight in its own right-ideal for those post-lunch chats or casual solo visits.

Speaking of solo diners, Market House is an excellent pick for those moments when you just want to treat yourself. There’s something about the energy of the place that makes it feel welcoming, whether you're with a group or flying solo. You’ll find outdoor seating when the weather’s kind, and the indoor space offers a stylish escape from the city’s buzz.

The venue is also wheelchair-accessible, with a fully accessible toilet on-site. Though there’s no designated car park and no assistive hearing loop, the central location makes it a convenient walk from major spots in Cambridge. They don’t offer delivery, but this isn’t the type of place you want to eat out of a takeaway box-it’s an in-person experience, and that’s the point.

Beyond the food and vibe, what sets Market House apart is how well it balances boldness and comfort. The dishes are adventurous, but not intimidating. The drinks are classy, but not overpriced. The ambiance is elevated, but never stuffy. It’s that sweet spot where you can sip red wine, snack on Korean crispy chicken, and feel like you’ve just discovered one of Cambridge’s best-kept secrets.

Whether you're here for lunch, dinner, or a mid-afternoon escape, Market House hits all the right notes.

The design and renovation is delightful. The wine bar where the Asian restaurant is located resembles an elegant cave with private seating arrangements. Beautifully with an Asian style decoration. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Around 40% of the food is vegan. The only downside is that the cold from the front door travels down the stairs which if seating below can be a bit chilly. Overall, would recommend for a delightful evening.

The dining experience here was absolutely phenomenal! Each dish was plated beautifully, showcasing an incredible level of detail and artistry. The Scotch egg with its golden crust paired perfectly with the tangy kimchi and creamy drizzle—such a creative fusion of flavors. The salmon dish was a fresh delight, with its velvety texture complemented by delicate accompaniments like caviar and pickled vegetables. The balance of flavors was impeccable. The lamb was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, paired with vibrant greens and earthy purple potatoes. The fish dish was another standout, with its crispy skin sitting on a bed of rich tomato sauce and juicy shrimp—a seafood lover’s dream. The ambiance, presentation, and taste all exceeded expectations. This is truly a place for those who appreciate a refined and memorable culinary experience. Highly recommend!

Went out for the day in Cambridge and found this little gem. They offer both British and asian cuisine. We opted for the British one and were pleasantly impressed. Felt like we were fine dining in a high end restaurant. We got the olives and scallops as starters along with good wine to pair with it. The olives were huge and had a spicy tingly flavour while the scallops were smothered in a rich buttery sauce that left us craving for some more. The waiter saw my partner constantly reaching for the remaining sauce, so he brought some bread to the table so he can enjoy it fully. Loved the waiter’s attentiveness. Then the main course came about. Amazing flavours both with the steak and the cod we ordered. Absolutely in love with the crispy truffle chips which paired delightfully with our mains. Loved this place and would definitely recommend, although I must say it’s on the pricier side, once in a while it’s worth it. Plus points for seating us on the window spot.
